An innovative re-purposing of a 1970s shopping centre in the heart of Nottingham City Centre that will bring life back to a once dying part of the city, and act as a catalyst for future urban regeneration.
The Broad Marsh Community Diagnostic Centre, opening in 2026, will house MRI and CT scanners, X-ray, cardiology, and respiratory diagnostic services, alongside phlebotomy. A large patient waiting and health promotion area will overlook the new Green Heart development which forms the centre of the Nottingham Broad Marsh redevelopment masterplan.
Leonard Design worked with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to design a solution to reuse part of the Broad Marsh Centre’s existing frame to form the primary structure of a new health care facility. The frame will be clad in a new energy-efficient envelope, and internally the space is fitted out to create a state-of-the-art health facility.
A new model for providing key NHS services, the Community Diagnostic Centre creates a place in the heart of the city that makes diagnostic testing more accessible. The eye-catching design of the building creates a new landmark entry building to the city centre and will set the tone for the ongoing reinvention of the Broad Marsh area, creating a new and exciting part of the city centre.
