Fletcher Gate Industries, the creative minds behind Magic Garden, Penny Lane and Hockley Arts Club, had a vision of bringing the buzz back to the night-time economy of Beeston Town Centre. Our challenge was to design a space which delivered this vision whilst creating an environment and offer that will become the heart of a diverse local community.
The project is located within a commercial shell unit designed by Leonard Design Architects for Broxtowe Borough Council as part of the wider mixed-use town centre revitalisation project. A coffee shop, two bars, kitchen, lounge seating, DJ booth, games arcade and mezzanine bar provide day-to-night amenity. Taking influence from mid-century modern design, the interior features teak panelling, retro concrete blocks, quarry tiles, textured finishes, graphic artwork, and real planting to create a relaxed welcoming atmosphere that appeals to a diverse local community. Flexible lounge spaces with loose furniture and mobile shelving dividers allow the space to be reconfigured to suit a range of scenarios and evolve over time. The design utilises the split level shell to create a screened mezzanine bar that can open/ close to meet peaks in demand and provide private hire space. A double height, floor to ceiling, operable glazed facades opens up to connect to the developments new high quality hard and soft landscaping which creates a vibrant setting for outdoor dining and drinks, forming a new arrival point to the town centre.
