Leonard Design were appointed by Middlesbrough Council following a successful ‘Future High Street Fund’ application in 2020. Working under the Bloom framework and in close collaboration with real estate and development manager, Praxis, Leonard Design developed proposals to transform Captain Cook Square into a leisure and dining destination with an enhanced public realm, new lighting and branding.
Working with Middlesbrough, Praxis and Hollis, as project manager, the proposals were taken from concept design, through planning and delivery on-site to a completion in early 2023. The project was shortlisted for ‘Refit/Refurbishment of the Year’ at the Insider Media North East Property Awards in 2023.
