A strategic approach to upgrading a well-used local shopping centre. Visual upgrades and enhancements to accessibility contribute to creating a more welcoming place to shop with a clearly defined identity.
The centre was visually in need of repair and redecoration, with compromised accessibility, partially compromised by low-quality earlier updates. Despite this, it remains popular and fully let, with Sainsbury’s and B&M as its anchor tenants and a 360-space car park to the rear.
Numerous short-term interventions aimed to improve the visual appeal of the centre, including new kiosks, feature lighting and decluttered access steps. Extensive improvements to the façades include contemporary backlit timber cladding, illuminated centre signage and a feature entrance portal to the main Regent Street entrance. This served to transform the visual appeal at the main arrival point of the centre, whilst concealing much of the post-construction security shutters and 1980s arcade roof, which clashed with the original modernist structure.
